ACORN: Protest Foreclosures
Monday, May 11, 9 a.m.
Parking lot between 3rd and 4th Ave., near Multnomah County Courthouse (1021 SW 4th Ave.)
Not active in supporting your neighbors who are facing homelessness because you think Obama will magically make everything all right? Give up that Ghost.
We need grass-roots action NOW, and YOU need to make it happen.
Every Monday morning, foreclosed homes are being auctioned at the Multnomah County Courthouse (1021 SW 4th Ave.). This is being done in spite of the fact that the bankers and their political flunkies are obstructing attempts to require mortgage mediation with the victims of the financial scams that threaten to bring down the world economy. (Contact your state representatives about support for SB 628, the pre-foreclosure mandatory mediation bill that the bank fraudsters are attempting to destroy, and see: http://blog.affil.org/2009/04/acorn-releases-road-to-rescue-how-the-philadelphia-model-can-reduce-foreclosures-across-the-country/).
Join Oregon ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) on the day following Mother's Day (Monday, May 11) at 9 a.m., in the parking lot between 3rd and 4th Ave., to prepare for a morning of obstructing the obstructors. We will attempt to prevent the auction by shouting down the auctioneer, by educating passers-by, and by any other means necessary.
Wear red and bring signs, if you can.
Contact ACORN at 503-764-9780, stop in at 5112 SE Powell, and visit http://www.acorn.org. Your neighbors need you, and you may need them to protect your own home.

The Catastrophe
Al-Nakba Week
Raising Awareness & Seeking Acknowledgment
In 1948 750,000 Palestinian men, women, and children were forced from their homes and villages by Israeli Militias never being allowed to return again. 531 towns and villages were systemically uprooted and destroyed by the emerging Israeli state and with them the dreams, aspirations, and possessions of an entire people were crushed.
To date the Israel Government has denied its role in these immoral acts and denied any
responsibility in restoring the rights of the survivors of the Nakba. Please join us in helping to raise awareness and remember this sad event. Because we believe a universal recognition of the Nakba, like that of the Holocaust, apartheid, slavery and other human-made horrors, is a crucial component of achieving peace in the region.

The Telling Project- -PSU Veterans Tell Their Stories- May 15,16,17
May 15, 16 and 17
1st Congregational Church of Portland
The Student Veteran Association at PSU is putting on a theatrical production called the Telling, All the info is in this flyer:
http://www.thesocialistparty.org/spo/action/telling_flyer.pdf
This play is based off of the stories of veterans of both current and past wars. The vets who will be on stage will be telling their own stories. I feel it will be a very good representation of what it means to serve in the military and think it may dispel many stereotypes and build bridges throughout the community.
