Free Comic Book Day

Saturday, May 2

Future Dreams, 1847 E Burnside St (and many other participating locations)

Get a free comic book (maybe two?). Graphic art storytelling is that rare gem which offers a format that forces the mind to work (technique known as "gutter magic") and offers creators nearly unlimited creativity -- and, unlike movies, has very little environmental impact. Many companies produce aone extra annual offering just for Free Comic Book Day, so the time is nigh.

No Ivy Day

Saturday, May 2nd

Work parties from 9:00-12:00

Food and celebration from 12:30-2:00pm

Lower Macleay Park, 2960 NW Upshur

No Ivy League's 15th anniversary, a program of Portland Parks and Recreation working to restore the native habitat of Forest Park and other natural areas. English ivy threatens the health and sustainability of our natural areas every day as its choking vines work to strangle trees, outcompete native plants and disperse its invasive seeds of destruction. The No Ivy League focuses on removing invasive plants, youth development programs, environmental education, and seeking relevant societal changes.

We will be coordinating ivy removal. This celebration will also mark the No Ivy League's 15th anniversary so we would love to see you there. You can show your passion for native ecosystems (and your disdain for ivy) by joining a work party at one of our locations throughout the region or by registering to host your own No Ivy Day site. Please click on No Ivy Day at www.portlandonline.com/parks/noivyleague to see a list of work party sites or register for our event on May 2nd. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the celebration.

Together, we face an ever-looming threat to the sustainable health of our natural environments. Thank you for your support of Portland Parks and Recreation, the No Ivy League, youth empowerment and invasive plant removal!
