Recruiter Watch at Oregon Fair
Volunteer help is still needed at the Oregon State Fair in Oregon.
Love Makes a Family is again sponsoring two booths at the Oregon State Fair from Friday, August 22, through Labor Day, September 1. The two booths are "Peace Is a Family Value" (peace) and "Equality Is a Family Value" (basic rights/marriage equality). Bonnie Tinker of the Seriously Pissed Off Grannies is the Executive Director of Love Makes a Family, a Quaker and a Portland peace activist.
Volunteers receive FREE admission tickets to the State Fair. Volunteers are desperately needed in the afternoons the rest of this week. On Monday, September 1, there is a desperate need for volunteers. For more information on the Oregon State Fair, see www.oregonstatefair.org .
If you would like to volunteer, please call Bonnie at (503) 504-1141. If you cannot reach Bonnie on her cell phone, just drop by the Fair, pick up your free admission tickets and volunteer for a couple of hours at your convenience. The free-admission "vendor/volunteer" tickets are available at the Jackman Long Building Ticket Booth, on 17th Street in Salem. Just mention that you are volunteering with Love Makes a Family.
The booth locations are in front of the east entrance to Columbia Hall. The booths are side-by-side. The Peace Booth is circulating the Petition to Stop the Deployment of the Oregon National Guard to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Can't make it to the State Fair but would like to help? Donations are gratefully appreciated. The check should be made out to Love Makes a Family and mailed to Love Makes a Family, P.O. 5163, Portland, Oregon 97208. Please indicate in the memo section, "Oregon State Fair" and which booth you would like to donate to (if you have a preference).
Thanks very much for your support.
In peace,
Joanne Luchini

Vancouver for Peace: September 13th is Peace and Justice Fair!
We are excited about the upcoming Vancouver Peace and Justice Fair on Saturday, September 13th at Esther Short Park! We hope you are planning to come!
How can you help and be part of this cool day? There are 3 main ways:
1. If you are part of a group that works for peace and justice, why not ask them to participate in the fair? Perhaps you have already signed up. There are over 40 groups already signed up who will be there with tables and information about their groups! See who has already signed up by looking at the website under the tab: Reserve a Space. The form to send in can be printed from our website www.vancouverpeaceandjusticefair.org
2. Volunteer to help on the day of the fair. We need people to be at the headquarters table, at the children's area, put up and take down sandwich board signs, "traffic" directors, the Vancouver for Peace table, and even as reenactors of people of peace. Call Kay Ellison 696-4840 with the times you are interested in doing any of this. We need help a few people at a time from 7:30-6:30.
3. Last, we need posters put up all over town! We have some colored 11 x 17 posters already, and also have where you can download and print posters on our website: 11 x 17, letter size, and small ones that are 4 to a page. See our website www.vancouverpeaceandjusticefair.org to print a poster!
Looking forward to hearing from you, and seeing you at the fair ! Kay Ellison 696-4840
