Don't Let Local Children Go Hungry
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 38 million people in our nation - 13.9
million of them children - live in households that suffer from hunger or live on the edge
of hunger. This hunger and "food insecurity" are far too widespread in our society.
Hunger in the United States is a problem that can be cured...but we need your help.
The Summer Food Service Program, - http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/Summer/ -
coordinated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture provides free summer meals at no cost
to children in our neighborhoods. There are several locations throughout the area
where children can go during lunch and get a free meal, no questions asked.
Help children in our community get access to food this summer by sending them to a
location that participates in the Summer Food Services Program. Contact the state
agency - http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/Contacts/StateDirectory.htm - administering the
program to find a location near you. Then, share this information with churches, parks
and other venues where you think there's opportunity.
