OPEN HOUSE: SW Gibbs St. Pedestrian Bridge Over I-5 Project
The City of Portland is beginning the design of a new bike and pedestrian bridge over I-5 to connect the historic Lair Hill neighborhood, part of the South Portland Neighborhood Association, with the emerging South Waterfront District. A project open house is scheduled for 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at Cedarwood School, 3030 SW 2nd Avenue. This is a drop-in event – no formal presentation will be made. The public is invited to provide input to the project design.
The SW Gibbs Street pedestrian bridge will span approximately 700 feet and will have a landing on the west side near the intersection of SW Gibbs Street and SW Kelly Avenue and on the east side near the intersection of SW Gibbs Street and SW Moody Avenue. The bridge will be adjacent to the Portland Aerial Tram. The project will include improvements to pedestrian crossings in the immediate area.
To help ensure equal access to City programs, services, and activities, the City of Portland will reasonably modify policies/procedures and provide auxiliary aids/services to persons with disabilities. Please call Jody Yates at 503-823-5835 with such requests.
For those unable to attend the open house, please visit the project website,

Attend a FREE First Thursday screening of two locally-produced documentaries about air pollution and health.... Filmmakers will be there to answer questions.
On July 3rd see a showing of Savannah Teller Brown's new documentary, “Living Diesel” and Sharon Genasci’s documentary, “What's In Our Air?” at the Screening Room on NW 19th Street (925 nw 19th) with snacks and a no-host bar. This is an opportunity to learn about and discuss the problems we have with air pollution in our neighborhoods.
Living Diesel is a new 18-minute documentary about pollution in the air we breathe from the common diesel engine. Diesel is used in most commercial trucks, and in a variety of vehicles, including school busses and stationary diesel engines on heavy equipment. The EPA identified these engines as a source of serious chemical and particulate pollution. Living Diesel explores the effects of this pollution on human health and the resolutions being explored and implemented, with the help of new government policies and the good will of some private companies.
What’s in our Air? is a half-hour program filmed in the Seattle, Portland and San Francisco areas. It looks at the health impacts of air pollution in residential neighborhoods and documents neighbors’ activism to counter the effects of air pollution. It won a gold medal at the Houston International Film Festival.
A wine and beer bar will provide no-host refreshments and snacks. The program is presented by the Health & Environment Committee, a subcommittee of the Northwest District Association. For more information, contact Neighbors West Northwest at (503) 823-4288.

“Dive-In Movies” return this summer to combine swimming and cinema at your neighborhood pool!
(Portland, OR) - Nothing says summer like swimming and blockbuster movies. Portland Parks and Recreation’s popular “Dive-In Movies” combine both, creating a uniquely fun opportunity to watch your favorite flicks from the comfort of the neighborhood pool.
Everyone will enjoy watching this summer’s movie, the animated comedy “The Bee Movie,” on a large screen visible from the warm pool water. Viewers can watch the film from either inside the pool or up on the deck. Floating filmgoers are encouraged to bring their own inner tubes or air mattresses.
The cost for the Dive-In Movie is $5 for adults; $3 for children. The pool water is warm for comfortable movie viewing, and additional underwater lighting and lifeguards will be brought in to ensure safety.
And like all good theaters, the pools will offer popcorn, hot chocolate and other treats – but without the sticky floor!
“The Bee Movie” will be shown at the following pools, dates:
Wednesday, August 20 Montavilla Pool (8219 NE Glisan St.)
Thursday, August 21 Creston Pool (SE 44th Ave & Powell Blvd.)
Friday, August 22 Sellwood Pool (7951 SE 7th Ave.)
Saturday, August 23 Wilson Pool (1151 SW Vermont St.)
Sunday, August 24 Grant Pool (NE 33rd Ave & US Grant Place)
Doors open at 8 pm; show time is at dark.
