Needed 10+ volunteers
Friday, June 20, 9:30 AM-12:30 PM
Windermere Real Estate is holding their annual Day of Service on Friday, June 20, 2008. They’ve decided to pull ivy in the Lower Macleay Park area of Forest Park to benefit us all and save our beautiful park. The staff at Windermere is only 15 people, and in order to commit to leading a group Forest Park Conservancy requests a volunteer commitment between 25-40 people. Please consider helping this event and ensuring that it happens. This would be a great activity to keep your children occupied for a morning at the start of summer vacation, plus, pulling Ivy is fun!
Reasons to help:
1) Forest Park serves the entire metropolitan area. It is home to hundreds of native Oregonian species. The invasives are taking over (if you would like to borrow OPB’s film Silent Invasion call me or send me an email).
2) We need volunteers or else the event won’t happen.
3) Ivy flowers bloom in the summer; if we kill the plant now we could be halting the colonization of ivy.
4) The event will be three hours outside on a day with a current forecast that does not predict rain.
5) You can meet a realtor to sell your house or find your dream home.
If you can volunteer please send me an email Alison@nwnw.org or call me at 503-823-4265. If you are unable to make it, but you know someone who might be interested feel free to forward this email.

Help Wanted: PDC Commissioner (from Sam Adams)
Dear Friends,
We must come together as a region like never before -- labor, business, education and government -- to out-innovate, out-smart and out-produce our global economic competition.
Thousands of Portlanders are counting on us to succeed. Over 21% of working Portlanders struggle to make ends meet at near-poverty wages, while thousands more are out of work. Increasing the number of living-wage jobs will most readily come from helping to improve the success of our area businesses. To meet this challenge I intend to join others in revamping our region's economic development efforts.
The Portland Development Commission will play a critical role in making this transformation happen.
Mayor Tom Potter has invited me to nominate appointees to the Portland Development Commission's Board of Commissioners as one of the first steps in our joint transition plan.
That's where I'd like your input. I am casting a wide net in looking for potential nominees to serve in a volunteer capacity on PDC's Board. For the full position announcement click here.
A note: Serving on the PDC Board carries with it significant time requirements in terms of meeting attendance, meeting preparation and public outreach responsibilities.
If you are not interested or not able to apply for nomination to the PDC Board, please forward this email to others who might.
I look forward to your thoughts and your nominations.
Sincerely,
Sam
