Conflicts of Interest and Financial Oversight for Nonprofits: The Tight Rope for Trustees, Grantees, Founders, Directors, Borrowers and Beneficiaries
Monday June 2, 2008 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
World Trade Center Auditorium, Building 2; 121 SW Salmon
There are an increasing number of rules, regulations, excise taxes and other sanctions that can apply to nonprofits. Nonprofit management has to be alert to review transactions, gifts and operations for compliance with both fiduciary standards and conflict of interest rules. Our speakers will address best practices in the nonprofit area to help the practitioner and nonprofit management avoid conflicts of interest and apply sound financial oversight practices. This seminar will describe events of conflict, identify disqualified individuals, consider the implementation of a conflict of interest policy, determine a procedure to identify the potential conflict, and provide a system for how to address the situation and document the process, the decision and the decision makers.

Tabling at Farmers Market
We want to have a presence at the Saturday Market every Saturday morning. In order to do this we need for each week we need a person, couple or group that will set up and be present at the table. The one in charge of the table may promote any cause that has some relation to peace making. In this election year we must not appear to be partisan or to be supporting a particular candidate. We also welcome anyone who would like to do a “generic” table using the materials that are always part of the Vancouver for Peace tabling collection. Tabling does take some time, but it is nearly always a pleasant time and the opportunity to greet old friends and make some new ones. Please sign up at tablesforpeace@aol.com
