Public Meeting Regarding Cascadia and Multnomah County Mental Health System
Thursday, May 29, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Benson High School Cafeteria, 546 NE 12th Ave.
This week, Cascadia has offered the state and Multnomah County options for downsizing their organization. We are looking at a variety of alternatives. Cuts may occur in program areas or geographic areas. Services will continue, but service providers and locations may change. Community feedback on the draft plan is valued. Consumers and members of the public are invited to weigh in at this meeting.
Criteria and considerations include:
a.. Continuity of services for mental health consumers
b.. No single provider will provide more than 40% of the services in the adult mental health system
c.. Maintaining staff to client ratios no greater than 50:1
d.. Evaluating providers' areas of expertise
e.. Geographic locations of services - identifying providers with a presence in each community
f.. Keeping our excellent clinical staff within our local mental health system
Cascadia's financial constraints have demanded a rapid response. We are building a flexible transition plan, allowing for the potential stresses of this accelerated timeframe. We will do whatever it takes to prevent disruption of the highest priority services.
For mental health assistance please contact our Mental Health Call Center at 503-988-4888.
As more information becomes available, we will provide updates by email and post information on this website: www.co.multnomah.or.us/mh.shtml

Retired Army Colonel Ann Wright In Portland
June 5th, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Annie Bloom Books, 7834 SW Capitol Hwy (Multnomah Village)
Come hear Retired Army Colonel Ann Wright discuss her new book "Dissent - Voices of Conscience" (co authored by Susan Dixon.) Let's give a warm Portland welcome to a woman who gave up her career for peace and justice in the Middle East. After more than 20 years in government service, Col. Wright submitted her resignation letter to then U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell on March 19, 2003, the day before the onset of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. In her resignation letter, Wright listed four reasons she could no longer work for the U.S. government under the Bush administration:
* The decision to invade Iraq without the blessing of the U.N. Security Council
* The "lack of effort" in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process
* The "lack of policy" in regard to North Korea
* The curtailment of civil liberties within the United States.
She was one of three State Department officials to retire from service in protest in the month prior to the invasion of Iraq. She has been tireless in her work for peace ever since.
