PORTLAND CITY COUNCIL WILL HOST A COMMUNITY BUDGET HEARING ON MAY 8

PLEASE JOIN THE CITY COUNCIL at this upcoming Citywide Community Budget Hearing to provide testimony regarding the Mayor's Proposed Budget for 2008-2009. The Proposed Budget is posted at www.portlandonline.com/communitybudget. The hearing is an opportunity for the public to testify on the Proposed Budget, providing input for the City Council before they vote on an Approved Budget on May 14.
A community fair featuring local community groups, nonprofits and some city bureaus will precede the hearing from 6:00-6:30 in the same location. Some groups participating in the community fair include: Big Brothers Big Sisters; NAACP; Elders in Action; the Community Energy Project; Boys Girls Club; the Urban League; and 211-Info.
Parking is available in the parking lot and on-street. Summary budget information, including the Mayor's decisions, original bureau budget proposals, and budget team recommendations to the Mayor are currently available online. Those who cannot attend may participate in the budget process and provide electronic testimony online at www.portlandonline.com/communitybudget. The Iraq - Afghanistan war supplemental may very well be voted upon this Thursday, May 8, in the House of Representatives.
The Senate Appropriations Committee will "mark-up" the supplemental this Thursday, May 8, setting the stage for a full vote by the Senate.
