Fireworks Safety

With the Fourth of July on the immediate horizon, Portland Fire and Rescue Prevention Division wants you to "Think Safe" and has created a new Internet link with firework safety information. Check it out here or visit <http://www.portlandonline.com/fire/index.cfm> . The website also includes video information.
In an effort to reduce fireworks related fires and injuries, the Portland Fire and Portland Police will be patrolling the streets of Portland this season on the lookout for the use of illegal fireworks. If you are caught using or are in possession of illegal fireworks in City of Portland, you will be cited and fined. The first offense is a fine of $100.00 and confiscation of the illegal fireworks , the second offense will be $200.00 and confiscation and if you are caught a third time the fine will be $400.00 and confiscation of the illegal fireworks.
Portland Fire & Rescue and Portland Police wish you a safe and happy 4th of July, and if you have any questions please visit the web site http://www.portlandonline.com/fire

If you would like to have a tree planting in your neighborhood this fall or winter, please consider becoming a Neighborhood Coordinator. Participants in the Neighborhood Coordinator Training on July 14 will learn how to organize plantings in their neighborhoods between November 2007 and March 2008. The coordinators will work with other neighbors and committees to plan the planting day, encouraging neighbors to participate in the planting, helping them select and order the right tree for the right place, assisting in filing permits to plant the trees, and helping organize a community breakfast and lunch for planting day.
To register for the training events, call (503) 282-8846 ext. 12. For more information about the training events or about Friends of Trees, visit www.friendsoftrees.org.
