Grassroots, Nonviolent Resistance to Israeli Apartheid in Palestine Forum

Feryal Abu Haikal and Mohammed Khatib live in communities that are immediately threatened with destruction and expulsion by the Israeli military and settlers. They will speak of their personal experiences mobilizing their communities to nonviolently resist Israeli violence and discrimination. Largely unreported by the media, thousands of Palestinians and hundreds of Israelis wage a grassroots, nonviolent campaign of resistance to Israel's apartheid system of military occupation and discrimination against Palestinians. Free and open to the public.

The Chiapas Media Project is an award winning, bi-national partnership that provides video equipment, computers and training enabling marginalized indigenous and campesino communities in Southern Mexico to create their own media. The Chiapas Media Project has presented at numerous film festivals all over the world. Aasia Mohammad Castañeda, US Coordinator, will lead the presentation, which includes video screenings and a discussion on the role of indigenous media and self-representation in the context of the current socio-political situations in Mexico and Latin America.

Learn more on how Portland Community Media can help you get your message to the community through effective and creative use of media. Workshop will share real world examples of local groups that have used video and media resources to inform, educate and engage their communities.
Portland Community Media is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote broad participation in civic and cultural life by encouraging effective use and understanding of community media.
