Human Chain in PDX
For Impeachment and Iraq Exit

Monday, January 1, 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Steel bridge, Waterfront Park, East Side Esplanade
Phone Contact: (503) 946-3263
Sponsor: South Side DemocracyforAmerica MeetUp Group, endorsed by Portland Peaceful Response Coalition
Start the New Year Right With a Message to the Bushies President Bush is planning to thumb his nose at millions of voters who sent his administration a message to get out of Iraq immediately. He plans to send in 30,000 more troops to die for his oil war. Start the New Year right with a message to him--and Senators Wyden, Smith and Reps. Blumenauer, DeFazio, Hooley, Wu: "No More Money for Bush's Oil War." Come to the Steel bridge's lower deck on New Years Day from 12pm noon to 2pm for a peace-related, family-oriented protest demonstration. Be in place on the bridge at 1pm. We will be forming a human chain, beginning base of Steel Bridge, West side. Please bring a sign for the passengers on all 3 MAX lines that pass by. Photography of the event and posting pictures on the Internet is encouraged. This is NOT a direct action/civil disobedience event. The plan this New Years Day (it falls on Monday) is to form human chains in cities and towns like Portland to emphasize to members of the new Congress and state and local officials that the Nov. 7 election was a tsunami of public demand that they: 1) end the Iraq war ASAP; and 2) begin accountability and ouster proceedings against Bush & Cheney. The people of the Baltic states used a human chain to help end the Soviet occupation of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. We would like to state that the United Staes is also an occupied nation; by right wing, war mongering extremists. Please wear warm clothes!

"It is the system itself that is incapable of producing freedom.... It is like a chicken can't lay a duck egg. A chicken can't lay a duck egg because the system of the chicken isn't constructed in a way to produce a duck egg...." ---- Malcolm X, Interview with Robert Penn Warren, March 1964
