In Portland, Food Not Bombs means free vegetarian meals four days a week!
We source fresh, mostly organic food, that would otherwise be thrown away and prepare it for the community.
We believe that society and government should value human life over material wealth. Many of the problems in the world stem from this simple crises in values. By giving away free food to people in need in public spaces we directly dramatize the level of hunger in this country and the surplus of food being wasted. We also call attention to the failures of the society to support those within it while funding the forces of war and violence, including the police.

2710 NE 14th Ave
Phone Contact: (503) 460-9702
The Community Alliance of Tenants (CAT) is looking for volunteers to staff our Renters' Rights Hotline. Based in NE Portland, the hotline gives renters from throughout the state accurate and detailed legal information about our rights, practical suggestions on how to protect them, compassion and appropriate referrals. We counsel dozens of tenants a day, many of whom are at immediate risk of losing their housing.
The next volunteer training will be Saturday and Sunday, October 7th and 8th. This is a GREAT opportunity to learn about our rights under the law and how to protect them. Plus, the time commitment is very small (4 hours a month).
Please call or email Ari at (503) 460-9702 or ari@oregoncat.org for more information or to sign up!

President Bush has authorized domestic spying on American citizens as part of the War on Terrorism without obtaining any court approval at any time. Please join a panel of experts for a discussion on whether domestic spying is permitted under the U.S. Constitution. The panel will take questions from the audience.
We must remain vigilant in order to preserve our fundamental Constitutional protections. We hope that you can join this important discussion.
