These Guys Are Here to Help?
by Michael C. Marino

The United States Government, from federal down to municipal, seems to have only one way of taking on a problem: shoot! I question their use in situations that require oddball concepts like, oh, saving lives, maybe?

How, exactly, is a huge military-style vehicle and a buttload of guys with guns supposed to change matters for the better? The National Guard came in calling their rescue effort a "military operation" in which they were going to "take the city back" -- from the residents, presumably, because one thing is sure: nobody went into the disaster area once they heard a hurricane was coming.

So, now the U.S. is occupying Afghanistan. And Iraq. And now: New Orleans. Oh, yeah, that progressiopn makes perfect sense. Right?
