Say NO to CAFTA!
Rally and Public Trade Forum

Monday, May 2nd, 8:15am - 12:00pm
University of Portland, Buckley Center
Sponsor:  Anti-CAFTA Coalition (503) 236-7916
Representative Earl Blumenauer and Senator Gordon Smith will hold a forum on trade and globalization. This is possibly the LAST chance to voice opposition to CAFTA before Congress votes on it. A coalition of labor, environmental groups, students, and small farmers are gathering at 8:15 am before the forum to send a statement to our representatives: Vote No on CAFTA. Then at 9:00am we can fill the forum itself and make our collective presence known. CAFTA pushes forward a free trade agenda that benefits corporations at the expense of family farmers, workers, and the environment. In fact CAFTA is WORSE than NAFTA--this new proposed trade agreement includes services such as water, power and education, not just manufacturing industries.
CAFTA Update: George Bush says CAFTA is his #1 trade priority. Committees in the US Senate and House met about CAFTA on April 13 and 21. Once submitted to Congress, CAFTA must go to an up or down vote within 60 days.
We want our officials to voice their public opposition to this anti-worker, anti-environment trade deal NOW. Once an opinion is made public, it is much harder to reverse it. Darlene Hooley and David Wu have said no. We don't want Earl to vote with Bush on this. And whether you attend the rally and forum or not, you can still call Earl and tell him to say it loud and proud: "I support fair trade and will vote no on CAFTA!" Earl's Portland office: (503) 231-2300.
