Rally To Preserve The Supreme Court

Thursday, July 7th, 12:00pm
Lownsdale Square, SW 3rd and Main (across from the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse)
Speaker: (A Cast of Thousands)
Contact Erik Sorenson (503) 789-8213
Sponsor: Oregon Coalition For A Fair And Independent Judiciary
When it comes to something as important as the Supreme Court, a nomination shouldn't be made in a partisan way, but by seeking consensus across partisan lines for judges who care more about how the law affects ordinary Americans than they do about ideology.
The Oregon Coalition For A Fair And Independent Judiciary will be holding a rally to urge Senator Smith to follow historical precedent by working in a consultative manner with President Bush to nominate and confirm consensus candidates for the Supreme Court.
The public is invited to attend the rally on July 7th at 12 O'clock Noon in Lownsdale Square (across from the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse) on SW 3rd and Main in Downtown Portland

Interdependence Celebration Picnic

Center field of Laurelhurst Park
Sponsor Living Earth, Vets for Peace, CLCB, APCA, and others (503) 788-7311
Boycott the rocket's red glare and nationalistic mumbo-jumbo on July 4 at a veg/vegan potluck community picnic open to all at Laurelhurst Park. Living Earth's third annual July 4 Interdependence Day Potluck Picnic welcomes folks from across the community to celebrate creativity, cooperation, activism, inclusivity, and community. Bring homemade vegetarian or vegan dish to share, your own plates/cups/utensils, and pets on leashes. If the Blues Festival is just a bit too much for you, and militaristic hoopla is not quite what you're looking for, come for a free-speech-but-no-speeches, no sales, no tabling, low-key, good-time community picnic. Games and musical instruments (acoustic only) especially welcome!
