New Liberty Party on WTC and Afghanistan
With Correction
What I meant to say was that we must not engage in an aerial war and think that the killing of thousands of civilians is any kind of solution; while the NLP does not favour any kind of military action, we take the position that:
Again, we mourn the loss of 5,000+ lives on September 11, urge caution in the United States' planned "retaliation". and this Chairman regrets writing the Statement below, written too soon after reading too many messages on the topic of "the US will attack -- but how?"

STATEMENT/H3>
"The New Liberty Party deplores the 'new warfare' in which militarist groups aim to win by racking up the highest count of civilian casualties. International law forbids this kind of warfare and it is a matter of international concern whenever rogue militaries cause this kind of damage - and the definition of a 'terrorist' and a 'soldier' is largely a degree of formality, they are both military units.
"While the New Liberty Party joins the nation in its sorrow over the tragic loss of life on September 11, we oppose any use of 'retaliation' until we are certain to be retaliating against the ones who are at fault. While evidence is leaning toward Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan, we do not have the kind of conclusive evidence which allows us to conclude that they are, indeed, responsible.
"In the case that Afghanistan is at cause, and IF the United States attacks Afghanistan, that the means of the attack should be ground-based missions intended to take out specific military, terrorist, and criminal targets, and neither aerial bombardment nor a mass ground-based attack aimed at taking out cities and civilians. A nuclear attack, as some are calling for, is abslutely out of the question. Bombing civilian population targets would be foolish; it would bring us more harm than good, further de-stabilize the area, and no matter how many Afghanistan citizens we kill, it won't bring our 5,000 dead back. In the long term, the United States needs to form more just and equitable foreign policies with the countries of the Middle East in order to establish a lasting peace.
"The New Liberty Party mourns those who have died - and pleads that we do not compound the tragedy by adding one of our own, but will, instead, seek solutions to the problems we are facing.
