The Pure

Copyright (c) 2004 Michael C. Marino

Among ye, all our Comrades: We are called the Pure.
Of tiny sects, the smallest; and, yet, we still endure!
We are known for purity -- and that none shall deny,
For 'though we accomplish nothing, no-one can say we really try!

      We demand all or nothing!
And that's just what we get:
We've always said "All or nothing" --
And we ain't got nothin' yet.
      We demand all or nothing!
      Listen, o ye slain!
Ye have not died for nothing:
      We're demanding all, again!!!

We like to sing labour songs, and the ones we like the most
Are those that use pithy words to express a hollow boast.
We will not sing any tune that preaches a partial cure:
If it's not "all or nothing" it's not good enough for the Pure!

      We demand all or nothing!
While others take what they've got
      We'll take all or nothing,
So the Pure must do with not.
      We demand all or nothing!
      Listen, o ye slain!
The Pure still say all or nothing
      So we've everything to gain!

So many have died in this fight -- and we'll miss our Comrades, sure.
But while they wound up with nothing, at least their hearts were Pure.
They were full of fighting spirit, and they answered to our call:
And some died fighting for nothing; while some died fighting for all!

      We demand all or nothing!
We said "all", not just one.
And so long as we haven't lost,
We can sort of claim we've won.
We still demand all or nothing!
      Listen, o ye slain!
      We're still fighting for nothing:
So ye did not die in vain!

The democratic socialists, they might gain more each day --
But if they will not join us, then they're getting in the way.
They will take just anyone; they're not proud like the Pure
While they may increase every day, our numbers just get fewer!

So we'll demand all or nothing!
And Pure hearts can't be bought.
      We'll stand on shallow principles
(They're all that we've been taught).
But we demand all or nothing!
      Listen, o ye slain!
We share with you your victory,
Which means... we share your pain!!!
