Statement of the SPUSA, Oregon

Upon review of the letter drafted by Dave Mazza, the materials exchanged by both parties, and the animosity expressed by Mazza and Marino, the State Executive Committee of the Socialist Party USA, Oregon chapter, finds that this is a personal dispute between two individuals, and not one that concerns our organizations. The Portland Alliance and the Socialist Party both exist as part of the same progressive, activist community. Mazza and Marino may have differences with each other, but the SEC does not involve itself in personal disputes between individuals.

On Dave Mazza's request, the SEC, therefore, takes no action, but urges Marino and Mazza to cease and desist from being divisive. Although we do not participate in personal arguments, we recognize Michael C. Marino and Dave Mazza as leaders of different areas of the progressive community and that, as leaders, their personal disagreement has the potential to spill over into causing people in the Left to waste time and effort fighting each other when we have more important things to do.
