The constant war in the Palestinian Territories is a complex issue; here are some links to some background material on Israel, the Palestine National Authority, and the State of Palestine. BBC has created a timeline of the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
At left are articles (most recent at the top of the list) that provide detailed news on the conflict. To the right is a list of things one can do to help. Although the Socialist Party of Oregon is not blind to the atrocities being committed by the extremists on both sides, it is clearly Israel who is the aggressor in the present conflict. Regardless of our perspective, the archive includes articles that do not reflect our point of view. Ultimately, we hope for peace to visit the area before it becomes nothing more than the Valley of Death.

Also check out Meretz USA's Weblog as well as their Website. In addition to Meretz USA, Wikipedia maintains an article on Hezbollah. Note, however, that there really are no neutral sides; to many, even advocating peace is advocaing surrender, which makes almost any kind of attempt at understanding and settling the conflict impossible. One location which tries to promote understanding and discussion is Debate Both Sides -- a good place to go if you want to discuss the matters in question, UNLESS you are close-minded: if you are not going to listen, you probably shouldn't presume to represent that you are willing to enter a conversation. A conversation entails BOTH speaking and listening.
