SUBJECT: BUSH, SCHREADER, AND SHAKALIS: Very Similar Personalites!

Comrades (and non Comrades alike),

MARTIN SCHREADER WRITES: Brown sabotaged his own campaign; he didn't need the help of any person in the Debs Tendency. His bizarre rantings about Marx and Hitler, his refusal to work with (or even notify) SP locals or state parties when he was in their area, his micromanaging of the campaign, his blatant sexism, and his patently reactionary positions expressed in his NPAT answers, sabotaged his campaign. The referendum was an attempt -- albeit a failed one -- to try to salvage the reputation of the Party from the tar that you and other Brown supporters poured all over it."

His bizarre rantings about Marx & Hitler? What about your rantings about "social-democrats" being something negative? Those that throw stones at glass houses. About "not notifying state parties," who would feel exactly comfortable contacting those that try to politically destroy you? Have you no shame?

The management of the campaign could have been better. I'll give you that one. This is not the first campaign ever to do things in ways that appeared dysfunctional from time to time.

The blatent sexism and reactionary positions argument again. Walt Brown might not be an ultra feminist, but he is not a sexist either. For (hopefully) the last freaking time, Walt Brown is not anti-abortion. He only opposes late term abortion. I disagree with Walt Brown on this issue, but that is what he believes. All this politically correct posturing is doing more to harm to our party than anything Walt Brown ever said or done. And for your information, my position on abortion is closer to Mal Herbert, Lisa Weltman, and Eric Chester than it is to Walt Brown's. The difference? I am tolerant of views that I disagree with.

All of you were just trying to find anything you can to bring Walt Brown down. Like someone said on this list, Walt Brown could have been elected on November 2, and some of you would still find fault with him.

BILL SHAKALIS WRITES: Yes, despite any "glorious" vote totals, Brown was not a supportable SP candidate.

Why? Because the mighty Bill Shakalis said so? Who made you the chair of "who is suitable to be the SPUSA presidential candidate?" Let me tell you something Bill Shaktman. Walt Brown was the most suitable presidential candidate the party had since Norman Thomas. This is not meant as anything negative to David McReynolds, Mary Cal Hollis, Quinn Brisben, or Frank Zeidler. Walt Brown had the special political saavy (which being lawyer doesn't hurt) to know the system enough to get the ballot access he did. I doubt that Eric Chester would have done anywhere close to what Walt Brown did in terms of vote totals. We could have had more, if it weren't for "Comrades" (fellow members) like you.

BILL SHAKALIS WRITES: Martin puts down the resons Brown is a detriment. Let's not forget them. Let's not confuse votes with a socialist movement, as Cde Little does time and again.

That's right. Bill Shakalis didn't to a F*^#$*($ thing to help with the campaign, so it is hard to focus on vote totals in Massachusetts. Thanks for nothing Billy Shaktman.

BILL SHAKALIS WRITES: Brown is not our leader of the SP -- in no way or strech of the imagination.

Eric Chester and Martin Schreader are not the leaders of the SP either. There are small things to be thankful for.
