Comrades (and Non-Comrades alike),
NORMA J. HARRISON WRITES: Please let me know what's wrong with Trotsky-ism. I've wondered that for years, given he strongly supported the proletarian revolution and urged expansion of it everywhere, as well as democratization of it.
MELVIN REPLIES: It is another form of communism for starters. Although on measure, Leon Trotsky was not as nasty of a person as Joe Stalin, he was the architect behind the Red Army that resulted in the Russian Revolution. He supported Lenin's aims of "dictatorship of the proletariat." The historic problems with Trotskyism lies with most of his followers. As I stated, most "Stalinists" today will defend only their "Stalinist governments" in almost the same manner as passion as "social democrats" defending "social democratic governments." While there is an ideological gulf between "social democrats" and "Stalinists," both of them are pragmatic, usually non-fundamentalist in what they are trying to achieve, and deal mentally in the real world. Both "social democrats" & "Stalinists" tend not to be sectarian, and this is because both movements have actually existing models that they use to guide their drive toward bringing what they imangine "socialism" is.
Trotskyites are at best dealing in a "dream world," or they are willing to forge an alliance with some nasty people that may or may not be alien to their ideology. They are the real advocates of "an enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine." This is why they either end up in the Bush Administration on the extreme right or end up defending Islamic Jihadists today on the extreme left. In my speculation, advocates of "social democracy" & "Stalinism" tend to reject the two conflicting negative extremes which tends to be advocated by Trotskyites.
Cheers!
